Climate Justice Coalition to march to the Office of the Presidency on Nelson Mandela Day to deliver emergency energy plan petition.

South Africa —The Climate Justice Coalition, a coalition of South African trade unions, grassroots, community-based and non-profit organisations, will march to the Office of the Presidency on Monday, 18 July, Nelson Mandela Day. They will hand over a petition addressed to President Cyril Ramaphosa. The petition calls on the President to implement an emergency renewable energy plan to end load-shedding, replace Minister Mantashe, and fix the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. With 2022 likely to be the worst year of load-shedding on record and fuel prices at an all-time high, members of the coalition are part of a growing public call for urgent development of renewable energy solutions to address South Africa’s energy crisis.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the demonstration. Spokespeople from the coalition will be available for interviews.
